10 things we learnt from the APC and PDP primaries

The primary elections of Nigeria’s two strongest political parties, the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) might have come and gone, but the dusts raised by the exercises across various states of the federation are yet to settle. As things are currently going, it is unlikely that the primary election appeal committees of both parties will adequately or significantly settle these dusts so much that it will amount to a major change of the status quo. Petitions, accusations, allegations and counter allegations from different aspirants may have to be settled by the courts as INEC’s deadline for accepting nominations from political parties has elapsed. For better or for worse, these nomination processes by the two biggest parties have taught us some lessons, some of which were so funny to the extent that one occasionally finds it difficult to differentiate between Nigerian politics and comedy. From the expected and usual to the bizarre and unexpected, here are some of these things are;

Nigerian growth to slow, inflation to rise in 2015

Nigerian growth to slow, inflation to rise in 2015

Nigeria’s growth rate is expected to slow to about 5 percent in 2015 as falling oil prices cut revenues and spending, the International Monetary Fund said on Friday.

Africa’s biggest economy will have to rely more on businesses outside its core oil sector in the medium term — agriculture, trade, and services all helped it grow 6.1 percent in the third quarter of 2014, the fund added.

Nigeria has been battered by the more than 45 percent decline in crude prices since the summer, in the run up to hotly contested presidential elections in February.

FG sees brighter chances of foreign exchange earnings from gas

Nigeria’s chances of earning foreign exchange from gas had brightened with the efforts the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) is making to stabilise the global market, a top official has said.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar, Shuaibu Ahmed, gave the assurance in an interview with the in Doha, Qatar, saying the focus of the forum was to salvage the international energy sector from the challenges facing the trade in gas.

“You can see that the prices of crude oil are crashing down and it is affecting the gas sector.

“So, the focus now is to salvage the situation internationally first. If we get to do that, Nigeria is a major oil exporting country; automatically it will trickle down because our revenue is going to increase.

“And some of the budgetary challenges we would have had in 2015 because of the dwindling oil prices would be overcome.“

10 Boyfriends every girl should date before tying the knot

Life would be so much simpler if the first boy we ever kissed was our soul-mate, and then we got married and were in love forever and ever, and lived happily ever after. (This has actually happened to two of my friends, and looking from the outside in, it appears to be as dreamy as it sounds.) But, alas. For those of us who don’t live in a fairy tale, it takes the kissing of some freaky frogs to get to a prince (or a princess) charming. If, you know, finding someone to share your life with is your thing. (If it’s not, mazel tov, and also please write the secret to happiness in the comments section below.)

Real talk for a minute, though: heartbreak is the worst — but, it’s also an opportunity for growth, and it gets you one step closer to the right relationship as you learned what worked, what didn’t, and what you need to be happy. Falling in love with the wrong guy can simultaneously be the most painful and best thing to happen to you. As I prepare to walk down the aisle toward my own personal Disney hunk, Prince Tony, I can’t help but be grateful for the guys I didn’t marry, but dated. So, as a follow-up to mylast blog, here’s my super scientific algorithm for the exes every girl should have in her back pocket, in order to find her Mr. (or Mrs.) Right (ie the guys who shattered my heart and taught me a thing or two about love):

If Your Guy Does These 5 Things, You Shouldn’t Marry Him

Here are five red flags that give you the green light to walk away, even when you’re not 100 percent sure you’re doing the right thing.

1. He gets violent, even if he doesn’t hit you.

You may think this is a no-brainer but honestly it isn’t. Most women I know who’ve been in abusive relationships have immense strength, only to shut down in the presence of her partner’s anger and violence. As a strong woman myself, I froze when a guy I’d been dating went into a rage one night, throwing things, damaging property and calling me names. I knew it was a deal-breaker because even though he didn’t put his hands on me, he scared me. No healthy relationship can be built off a foundation of fear because you never know when his actions may escalate.

2. He cheats.

Many people will say this point is debatable because lots of couples who have fidelity issues repair their relationship and end up in a better than where they were pre-cheating. But it’s not the act of cheating that’s the deal-breaker here; it’s the disrespect, broken trust and significant risk to your health. (Hello, STDS!) With all the risks that hang in the balance for just a tiny bit of pleasure, it’s entirely inconsiderate and selfish when a man cheats on you. Do you want someone who puts his wants before your needs, like security and trust? I don’t which is why I’ve said BYE to cheating men.

3. He doesn’t claim or proclaim you.

Many women will spend time in limbo-like relationships with guys who won’t give them the girlfriend title. Here’s the truth: If you’ve been dating a man for longer than six to nine months and he’s hasn’t made you an official part of his life, it’s time to MOVE ON. Stop making excuses for why things aren’t progressing to the next level; you’ll only waste time and your time is worth more than that. These days, I don’t settle for less because I don’t want a man who makes you a bargain-bin find. If he knows your worth, he’ll claim and proclaim you and there will be few conversations about how ‘he isn’t ready.’

4. He suffers from addiction.

There are plenty of honor badges to be earned by standing by your man when he’s fallen on hard times. But CAUTION if you stick with a man fighting demons, namely addiction. Addiction can range from less-severe, like cigarettes, to major issues such as drug, alcohol and s*x. Someone who suffers from an addiction will do anything – and I mean anything – to get their fix, even at the expense of those they love. So unless you’d like to be second to whatever vices he has, it may be time to ‘leave smoke.’

5. He gaslights you.

We’ve spoken about gaslighting, which is the manipulative act of someone attempting to change your memory or perception of events in their favor, making you feel crazy or like you’ve forgotten something. But when is gaslighting a dealbreaker, you ask? The answer is when it happens! A man who resorts to manipulative tactics to have his way or ‘win’ an argument will continue to play mind games and be dishonest with you. When I experienced gaslighting in my relationships, I felt crazy and my self-esteem plummeted until I understood the game that was being played. Take advantage of the situation and leave immediately; it’s the best thing you can do for yourself.

Photos: EFCC arrest Nine for Illegal Dealing in Petroleum Products

Find the EFCC Press statement below

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, today at a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State arraigned nine persons for offences bordering on illegally dealing in petroleum products. Clement Oguntuwase, Joseph Obie, Ifeoluwa Albert, Adams Amzat Akokhia, Isaac Ndidi Chima, Rafiu Momodu, Rasaq Mahmud, Godwin George, and Thomas Daniel were arraigned before Justice Lambo Akanbi on a 2-count charge of conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products. The accused persons were intercepted aboard MB SKYE by men of the Joint Task Force (JTF), Operation Pulo Shield on November 14, 2014 in Brass waters, close to Nigeria Agip Oil Company (NAOC), Bayelsa State while transferring suspected crude oil from two vessels, MT CERGEN-D and MT ELIMINA, which were under investigation for alleged oil theft.

Things men do that are girly but won’t admit it

We’ve been raised into believing that men and women have specific traits – masculine and feminine, respectively, that define their gender roles. While men ought to represent strength and bravery, women are seen as somewhat weak and docile.

Adhering to this enduring tradition are today’s men who find it difficult to accept their ‘feminine’ side. One of the reasons why men don’t reveal this side to people is because they consider it a weakness. Best selling author Durjoy Datta agrees, “Absolutely! Guys have big egos. But then every male has a feminine side and every female has a masculine. It’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

Times have changed. Pink is no longer coveted only by women and grooming salons have started coming up with exclusive packages for men. So today we probe into the ‘girly’ things that most men do but won’t admit doing.

54 soldiers sentenced to death for mutiny

The General Court Martial sitting at the Army Headquarters Garrison in Abuja yesterday sentenced 54 soldiers to death after finding them guilty of mutiny. 59 soldiers were on trial on a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy to commit mutiny and mutiny.

Four of them were however acquitted.

While the judgment was going on, stern looking soldiers posted at the entry gate into the Mogadishu Barracks, turned back journalists saying they had instructions not to allow the media into the barracks.

An officer who was at the Court Martial however confirmed that 54 of the 59 soldiers were sentenced to death. The 59 soldiers who were serving in the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state, allegedly refused lawful orders by their commander to proceed on a mission to clear out terrorists and secure a town for subsequent military deployments.

Ambode picks Oluranti Adebule as his running mate

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has picked the serving Secretary to the Lagos State Government (SSG), Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule, as the running mate to the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, P.M. News can authoritatively reveal.Oluranti

It was reliably learnt that Dr Adebule was the natural choice for the party when the leadership finally agreed to give the slot to a Muslim female.

According to an impeccable source within the party, “With her high religious background and close affinity with the Muslim community in the state, having being a prominent member of the Muslim Students Society (MSS). She is also a doctorate degree holder who have lectured at the Lagos State University (LASU) before her appointment as the SSG and her political activities. 7 Change in your man`s behavior that you should not ignore

Living together is not always easy and it sometimes reminds a battle field rather than a safe harbor. Each partner should be very attentive to see all the changes in the mood of their partner. Mother Nature took care for women to be more sensitive to other peoples` feelings. At the same time men are reserved and rarely show their sentiments, so a woman may not have the faintest idea of him being unhappy. So I`m going to give you some signs of men`s behavior that you should not ignore.

1. He is often distracted

As soon as your man starts inventing some businesses instead of spending time with you, you should become alerted. He feels unhappy and that`s why he looks for excuses. He doesn`t want you to notice anything, and talking about problems is even more undesired for him. He will watch TV while you talk, or play video\computer games with his headphones on etc. For woman communication is essential, men are different. First of all, make sure whether it was just a short period of time of his being deep in thought or such tendency became a habit already. If the last variant, it is high time for a serious talk and changes in your life.

You can feel their sorrow just looking at the pics. A fire incident at popular Labaowo Market, Ogunpa in Ibadan, Oyo State, has left traders in anguish after a section of the market was ravaged by fire. Many traders lost all their wares as there was not much that could be done to salvage some of their belongings. They gathered and wailed uncontrollably as fire engulfed their means of livelihood.

The market went up in flames around 10am after an inflammable product caught fire. Millions of Naira was lost in the fire. See some photos after the cut...

FINALLY! Oyo PDP dead, as Makinde, others dump party

The crisis-ridden Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State was further depleted yesterday as one of its aggrieved leading governorship aspirants, Seyi Makinde picked up the ticket of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, as its candidate for the 2015 election.

PDP SINKING

Just last week, a former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala also dumped the party for the Labour Party after the former Senate Leader, Senator Teslim Folarin was given the party’s ticket.

While declaring his intention to call it quits with the party in Ibadan yesterday with all his teeming supporters, Makinde said; “After fruitless efforts to ensure that free and fair election prevailed within PDP and witnessing the yearnings of the ordinary people of Oyo State that are asking for change for the reduction of poverty due to poor governance, I find it extremely difficult to shy away from this popular demand to make a difference in lives of our people.”

Stella Damasus Finally confirms relationship with Daniel Ademinokan in her most candid interview yet! - " If I have 50 husbands how does that affect you!"

You know when a rumour about two celebrities seeing each other erupts and they keep denying? Have noticed it all kinda comes out to be true i.e Tiwa Savage,Omawumi and the likes..

Even when the media figured out Daniel and Stella they still kept denying forming business partner levels..

Well its all out now..read and watch what she shared on all the husband snatching tales below,on reports she stole Doris' son and well lots more..
On her relationship with Daniel Ademinokan: “Let me put it this way. Let me help you hit the nail on the head. One of the comments I have seen consistently, over and over again, is ‘Stella snatches somebody’s husband’, ‘Stella the husband snatcher’, which is what has been going on. And I had sworn that I would never talk about it, or even listen or stress myself about this thing but I have decided to do this now, so that I end this once and for all.

First of all, let me paint a picture for you and you let me know what makes sense to you. When I looked up the word snatch or steal, ehh, let’s go to the dictionary. It means, forcefully taking something away from its original position. Forcefully. From its original position to another position. Something that does not belong to you. That’s what I gathered from the word snatch or steal.

So I looked at me, Stella, and I wondered to myself, how is it possible to go to somebody’s home, and take a man, and take his son, away from his home and say follow me. You are a man, and according to their story, he is happily married inside his home. With his family complete and I walk into that home, to forcefully take a man, abled bodied man, and a kid, away from somebody’s hand and you are there looking at me. How does that work?

Did they accuse me of using voodoo? Yes or no? They said no. Okay, did I put a gun on anybody’s head and remove somebody from somewhere? They said no. So logically, if people actually sit down and think about it intelligently, how do you snatch somebody from somebody and the person is there looking at you?

So when you see a man who has settled ties with a woman and decides to move on with his life and you feel that there is something in this man that you like and he likes you. I am not a kid. I am 36 years old. I am not about to start hiding myself. I was waiting for somebody to actually ask me this question, because all I have heard for the past two, three years are rumours. They said, blogs said, this said. Nobody has been bold enough to confront me and ask me. So I say, if I steal something from somebody, and the person is really the owner of the thing, you come and ask me, ‘you took something from me, give me back’.

But nobody was able to that. And I am like, if I meet an abled bodied man that has left and moved on. That is not even in the same house with whoever and is not doing anything with whoever, and both parties have decided this thing is not going anywhere, and they have gone their separate ways, why is it that it easier for the world to blame the woman that the man has decided to end up with?

Why is it that it is always that woman that scattered that home? The two people that did things that nobody was there, nobody said something must have happened between this two people but it is always somebody else that is the problem. And I always say, I do not tolerate blaming anybody for your own problems. I have had problems.

After my late husband’s death, I got married again and the marriage didn’t work. After eight (8) months, it crashed. People didn’t hear much about it, why? We were both mature to understand that we came together, we knew that the thing was not working, instead of us to become enemies we will remain friends, let’s just let it go quietly. And we let it go quietly. I didn’t blame anybody else for doing it, he didn’t blame anybody else for doing it. So I am wondering, two people come together they go their separate ways, this one meets somebody, all of a sudden, it is that somebody that is the problem. Did anybody ever ask, what went wrong? Why would a man pick up his son and walk away from his marriage?

Was there anytime another woman was the problem until the man moved on with another woman? Nobody brought up Stella’s name, then all of a sudden, ‘oh he’s moved on with somebody else (snaps fingers), it must be her’. How? I am still waiting for somebody to come with proof to say ‘oh when they were still in marriage, when they were still in a house, you came and did this.’ So the reason why I don’t like talking about it is that, there are some things I would say to you and you would look at me like ‘oh wow’ but I don’t want to be derogatory, I don’t want to tow the line that other people have towed by talking bad about people.

I would never do that but the stories started coming. At first I ignored it, I just kept quiet, and then it was all over the place, Google, blogs, and I am like, one day, one day, I would tell my story. There’s a reason why I am respecting certain people, respecting certain legal issues that are going on. So there might be some things I may not hammer on, but whenever you hear this person snatched this person’s, you will ask the person, the person that they said was the original owner, what was the person doing when they were snatching the person from him or her? I don’t get it. Do you understand?

So I look at it, I am not ugly, I am not dumb. Of all the men in the world, I will now go and look for somebody else own and say this is the one I want. If he didn’t come out of it and say I want to be with you and you want to be with me, how? Why would I come and grab…? Am I that bad looking? Am I that old?.”

On if she ever thought she and Daniel, should go their separate ways: Not at all, not at all. You know why? Because my conscience was clear. Whatever issues a man has with his wife or whatever, when they deal with it, they deal with it, I don’t come into it. And once you are done with it, and ready to move on, and you want to move on with me, and I want a life with you, it’s me and you. I don’t care what anybody else is thinking or saying.

People have said this, it hurt because of the impression people tried to create but I looked at myself and asked myself, Stella in your heart do you believe you did anything bad? If my answer is no, then my dear, there is no looking back. Because I am not a kid for me to make a decision and say I want to be with this person. If I marry 10, it concern you? That’s what I used to say.

If I have 50 husbands, how does that affect you? Does it change my work? I do my work, you enjoy it. Enjoy it. It’s not about what I do in my bedroom that is your issue because you don’t really know what happens in people’s bedrooms. You don’t know what happens in marriages, you don’t know why people like us are very weary of people knowing our business.

You don’t know how many marriages are suffering in silence. The issue of domestic violence that I am fighting for, it’s part of it. There are marriages that they will tell themselves, especially celebrities we suffer from that, you are in a marriage and because you are worried about the press, the media, you stay in. You just stay in, you act, you play for the camera, you act like everything is okay. Then you get home and everything is hell because you know the moment you take that bold step and walk away, the backlash will be so bad.

But you now ask yourself, to stay in and become a monster or to just quietly live and preserve my sanity. When you leave to preserve your sanity, then the world wants to make you crazy. You understand. So it’s a matter of choice. People make choices everyday. They’ve made theirs, I have made mine. If you can’t deal with it, no problem. It is my life. Live yours, and I will live mine. And I am Happy. I am not ashamed. Never a moment of regret.”

On tying the knot with Jaiye Aboderin at the age of 21: “I always wanted to start early. I always wanted to have children early. I wanted to have a marriage early, I wanted to grow with a family. I wanted to learn the inside of it, I didn’t want to wait and grow, and mature, and become big and famous then start to wonder ‘oh, will anyone marry me now’.

I didn’t want that to happen because at 16 I was already popular. I was making money, I was traveling. So at that point looking at my life, I said, if I do this for another five (5), six (6), seven (7) years, and I don’t start a family, it will become more difficult for me later on. And so, I decided if I find somebody who I love, who will love me back, we will go together. We will fight all the fight, make up, we will do whatever, but we will grow old together. And that’s what happened.

And I am happy I made that decision, because today I have a 15 year old. I grew up with my children. When you see the three of us, and you see my daughters, you will think we are sisters. And we talk as friends. So it was an important thing for me. To have a family, and have that…I needed something to check me. We have a tendency to be crazy and do whatever we like because we could get away with anything, we could travel all over the world, we could get people to like us like this (snaps finger), we had money to throw around. If I don’t have that family unit to check me, I don’t know what I would have become and I won’t lie about that.”

On recovering from losing him: Recover? Do you really recover? They say time heals. I say, I have a different definition, I say time numbs. It is not something that heals, and then that’s it, it’s gone, it’s gone, No. This is someone you planned to spend the rest of your life with, and grow with.

We made plans, like every other couple. And when that happened…he died when I was 26 with two children. I just felt that my life had ended. So, but with time, this year, December 3rd will 10 years, one full decade. So it is not healing, I won’t call it healing but I will say it numbs it and once in a while, it comes up and the pain is as fresh like yesterday but it is how you deal with it that matters.

And that’s what I have had to do for the past 10 years but I am very grateful for the family I have, for the people I have around me. For that, you need a lot of strength. God helped me through it all.”

On Widow being her story: “Widow is a true life story but not my story. The woman who I played lives with her children in the UK. I did Widow, months before my husband passed away. So I saw the lady that I played, so when the movie came out, the movie came out after my husband had died.

It didn’t come out before. So when it came out, everybody thought ‘oh that’s her story, she was telling her story’. It wasn’t my story. I wasn’t upset, I was actually grateful that I did such a great job that people believed that it was me. Because as at the time I was doing it, my husband was, in fact he was the one dropping me off on location. So it means I must have done a very good job for people to actual feel it and say oh that’s her story.”

“You see my people, this is why i don’t like posting photos on instagram. This suit I am hearing now, once it hits instagram, it is a complete waste because everyone would have seen it and when i wear it to any other event, you people will staring mocking me and saying i don’t have clothes. But my friend Iyanya, he posts like no man business to his million fans on instagram…but it’s like the dude has consumed all his shirts.
